Our children have always had German Shepherds in their lives. My dogs were six and three years of age when we had our first child back in 1997. They were all wonderful with him. He would hold on to their collars when he started to take his first steps and they acted like a walker for him.
All of my GSD's have had wonderful gentle temperaments when it comes to children.
I believe that every child should have a dog in their lives. Children will learn about the concept of loyalty and responsibility by having an animal to care for. Caring for an animal teaches them great empathy which I am sure will help them later on in life.
Something my eldest son said when he was five years old will always stay with me. Whilst laying on the floor nose to nose with our first white GSD Loki he made the comment of Loki being his dog. When I asked him why he thought that was his reply was simple. "He has a picture of me in his eyes" That brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye that day. The love shared between this small boy and his dog was quite wonderful.
I have added this gallery with a few photos of my children and dogs from over the years for you all to see the beautiful bond I get to witness everyday.
